We do not know whether the Cour de Cassation has already reached a verdict. Dr. Hamer writes: I received the happy news at 5 p.m. on March 11 – the date of Dirk’s birthday. Yet, only a few hours before, they had tried a last-ditch attempt at a little psychiatric pressure. I was summoned to the administrator’s office where I was told that I had bought and smoked all these cigarettes... I replied that I was a non-smoker, that I had given them away. She asked – although it was a superfluous question – if I had gone through a depression. I asked her whether she saw a context to my alleged cigarette consumption. She replied, ”Yes indeed.” ”Well,” I answered, ”then the question is pretty much settled, given that I am a non-smoker.” I added that she shouldn’t worry, that I had never suffered from depression. If it was possible to become depressed in prison, then I certainly should have been, what with all the harassmen I had enduredt. I repeated that I had never been depressed in my whole life. She asked if I was scared of the inmates and if that was the reason for my giving away the cigarettes. I showed her my fist and said: ”Look, if I hit someone just once, my attacker would be out. No, nobody would pick a fight with me, and neither would I attack anyone, I get along fine with everybody, even with the guards.” She didn’t ask anything else. And I said: ”May I ask you something now?” ”Yes.” ”Obviously you ordered me here to find out about the possibility of a depression, to be forced into a psychiatric evaluation.” That struck her like lightning. She literally froze and looked away. I calmly looked at her without saying another word. At last she nodded and whispered ”yes”. A few hours later – now that this last attempt had failed – I was notified with an official document that I was to be released on March 20, or rather Saturday, March 19. How much sense would it make to try to find out if someone was depressive if that someone was to be released within a few days? They really did leave no stone unturned!! I now feel I am on the last leg of a long race, just like the crocusses who are eagerly growing through the last bit of winter. With the official arrival of spring on March 21 we will surely cross the finish line together. Of course we hope, just as you do, that the information provided by the French authorities is correct and not another ruse to inflict psychological harassment on Dr. Hamer. In any case, if possible, Dr. Hamer will take a plane immediately from Paris to Germany and meet all his friends (but no media). As soon as we know more, we will forward this information to you.
