What happened in the meantime...
In the end, the congress in Madrid took place in the absence of Dr. Hamer, but in spite of this it turned out to be a great success! All participants showed a lot of interest, and many newly-printed Spanish-language editions of Dr. Hamer’s postdoctoral thesis were sold. These are already on their way to South America, together with copies of his congress presentation.
The French authorities’ hope that Dr. Hamer might eventually crumble under the pressure and sign the conditional release (”in order to catch the carrot in Madrid”) did not pan out. Another attempt to potentially declare him unfit to be detained ”for psychological reasons” in an ”announced one-hour medical examination” did not come to fruition either, quite simply because Dr. Hamer categorically refused to agree to an appointment. On May 9, he was harassed in his cell three times – a document was even submitted to him which he was supposed to sign, saying that he was now personally responsible for the consequences of his refusal to being ”examined” – something he, of course, did not sign. It was obvious that the examination would be a psychiatric one because Dr. Hamer is in excellent physical health.
The protest at Tübingen took place at the same time. Some info for those who couldn’t make it: The turnout was fantastic with 1200 participants who travelled by car, bus or train from all over Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland and Italy (130 participants alone!) in order to demand Dr. Hamer’s release and to demand that the German New Medicine be a legal choice of therapy for any patient. Dr. Hamer would like to express his deep gratitude for the selfless support shown by each and every one – in particular the event’s organizers and volunteers – and we, of course, couldn’t agree more!
Another milestone was Dr. Hamer’s 70th birthday. Again, a big thank-you from Dr. Hamer for all the best wishes he received in prison, he was quite moved. Unfortunately, his special ”birthday book” could not yet be given to him because he has no permission to receive anything.
The detention review hearing was slated in Paris for the very next day. The lawyer was able to deliver her plea (which had been uncertain up to the last minute). She also sharply criticized the fourfold augmentation of the sentence (4 x 9 months) as purely abitrary and declared it a contravention of European law. The Public Prosecutor, however, pleaded to maintain a sentence duration of 3 years. The final decision will be heard on May 31. Regardless of the outcome: it will go down in history as an outrageous disgrace which France will never be able to eradicate!
