Report from Dr. Hamer - 16.12.04

Only a few days are left until Christmas, and Dr. Hamer still remains under preventive imprisonment. At least his lawyer was finally allowed to visit him on December 1 (after the deadline for filing a submission with the Cour de Cassation expired). His partner has also been granted visitation rights, and hopefully she will be able to see him before the holidays. Considering the circumstances, Dr. Hamer is doing reasonably well. In his letters he reiterates his gratefulness to all who continue to support him and the German New Medicine so strongly; this gives him courage and strengthens his determination to endure the situation and bear the injustice brought upon him. We hope that the authorities will do everything necessary to remedy the current situation. On the other hand, however, you should know that the Spanish police arrived at his residence on December 13 with a written court order issued by the prosecuting attorney’s office in Leipzig – (loosely translated: ”... as a result of the violation of German legislation authorizing only certain persons to practice natural or alternative medicine”. It goes on to say (if the matter wasn’t so serious this would be fit for a joke): ” ... if the accused fails to appear before court, this order may be commuted into an arrest order (paragraph 487 of the Criminal Code) ”. Dated November 26, 2004. What does this mean? Just in case the French authorities do not succeed, maybe an attempt to get him should be initiated in Germany, or perhaps in another country of the European Union? Poor Dr. Hamer – he does not even know about that. How did the lawyer of the prosecuting attorney’s office, Joelle V., put it? "What can one do – quite literally, to stop Hamer?" Our question must read: "What else can we do to put an end to the injustice?” The answer: Not to surrender, whatever the circumstances! We have to be able to reach the base, to initiate some sort of grass-roots operation in order to inform the public! Please try to offer the book ”A short introduction” in your neighborhood book stores. We have come up with a special flyer, downloadable from the usual websites within the next few days. Despite all that has happened there is one good piece of news: On December 12, Professor Josef Miklosko* issued a statement for Dr. Hamer, which has already been made public. Dr. Hamer is not yet aware of this, but he will be enormously pleased. Please distribute this statement together with the letters from Dr. Stangl. [* Josef Miklosko, 1990 – 1993 Vice president of Czech and Slovak Republic for Human Rights, 1997 - 2000 Vice Rector of the University of Trnava for Science, Research and International Relations] We have just received a letter from Dr. Hamer in prison. He writes: Third Sunday of Advent, December 12, .2004 Dear Friends: I am sending you an interim report of developments in the concentration camp at Fleury-Mérogis. They still don’t heat the cells although it is freezing cold. When they let us go outside we have to walk briskly because the temperatures are around 0 degrees with gusty winds. Everything is pure harassment, but I think the guards only do what they are told to do. The visitation rights for my children and friends were retracted. My son was told to submit his family tree to prove that he really is my son. Plus a copy of his police records, of course. My girlfriend and Ms. Sixt are not allowed to see me because they are not family. I will probably not be allowed to see anybody else until Christmas [Note: Both have been granted permission in the meantime, but at the time of writing this letter Dr. Hamer did not know this]. I have more or less been begging them every day for more than 9 weeks to get my books: Homer: Ilias in Greek/German and Herodotus: Histories I and II. I have finally been told that I might get the ”naked books” if I agreed to the covers being removed. According to my lawyer, the prison management indicated that if I wanted to be transferred to the hospital ward, it would be no problem, they would take care of it right away. I guess they can’t get over it that freezing in this cell is a cinch for me and that I manage to march 10 kms during my two daily outings. The cells are not built from stone, but constructed of cement. These cement walls must have been painted 30 years ago, but the paint has come off in many places. The bars at the window are all rusty. The window panes are unspeakably dirty with some barbed wire on top from which hang various rags, plastic bags, lengths of rope, shredded bed sheets, bottles, and even a crutch! One guesses rather than actually sees what lies behind this curtain of trash: cement walls, barbed wire, more cement walls, more barbed wire, guard towers – in short the perfect setting for a film on gulags and concentration camps. They have also started to check and censor incoming mail more stringently. As a rule, letters from Alhaurin usually take 9 or more days to reach me. Obviously to see whether the spirit and morale are crumbling. By the way, they have changed the criminal charges against me on the quiet. The ”incitement to use and practice the New Medicine” has been changed to ”incitement to the unauthorized practice of medicine”. They don’t want to go back to the first instance, the authorities try to make sure this won’t happen. The verdict rendered by the Cour de Cassation can then only result in some type of ”pardon” because I will have been sitting in prison for 6 months by then. But the French can twist and turn as much as they like – this will be their Waterloo. I thank you for supporting the German New Medicine. You may not even realize how much this helps me to endure what’s going on here. I wish all of you a warm and restful Christmas.
