Dear Sir/Dear Madam,

From Austrian newspaper reports I learned about Dr. Hamer’s imprisonment in Spain, based on an international arrest warrant concerning the ”illegal practice of the medical profession“ and ”fraud". Dr. Hamer was sentenced by a French court without probation.

I have known Dr. Hamer and his medical discoveries for more than 12 years. I’ve dealt with his research in a practical as well as in a critical manner. Over time, it became clear to me that there is a deep truth in his findings. Applied in practice, Dr. Hamer’s discoveries (based on brain computer tomography) are an enormous help when dealing with the many ailments from which our patients are suffering.

In the beginning Dr. Hamer’s findings were endorsed by renowned scientists who, under massive pressure, had to withdraw their support. As a simple physician, I had to do the same.

To date Dr. Hamer’s publications still find resonance among the general public. Both ordinary as well as intelligent and critically-minded people are analyzing the cause of their disorders based on his discoveries. In addition to common medical treatments, people are looking for help in this new area that offers them a better chance of recovering.

It is incomprehensible to me that, in spite of a court ruling, the University of Tübingen, Germany, has not complied to test the accuracy of Dr. Hamer’s findings. The matter could be clarified at once, one way or another!

Instead, Dr. Hamer is asked to ”recant“! The wording alone makes me shudder and reminds me of Galileo Galilei and the Inquisition. The Middle Ages reinstated into our century!

I am also reminded of the important finding Ignaz Semmelweis came up with in his time. When he informed his colleagues, he was dismissed, despised and, in the end, died in a mental institution. Today we are proud of this great physician who saved the lives of thousands of childbearing women. In Vienna they erected a monument in his honour. We also have a Semmelweis Clinic! Who of Semmelweis’ medical colleagues looked after him later? Well, he was no longer in the picture – finished!

Concerning breast cancer, in 1970, during a congress for surgeons, Dr. Hackethal called upon his colleagues to only remove the tumor and operate in a way to save the breast instead of brutally amputating the entire breast. Women suffer immensely as a result of the destruction of their womanly integrity. They feel mutilated.

What happened? Dr. Hackethal was thrown out and the Congress concluded, literally, that ”his testimony is doomed to failure“ (!) Today, in the year 2004, wherever possible, surgeons operate to save the breast, or attempt to reconstruct it! However, Dr. Hackethal never had is reputation restored.

And now, Dr. Hamer’s case!

Articles in today’s medical journals already point out that serious emotional conflicts leave a visible imprint on the brain (see Medical Tribune No. 8 of 18th February 2004, explained by Prof. Dr. Alexander Friedman, Univ-Clinic for Psychiatry, Vienna, Univ. Asst. Prof. Dr. Maria Steinbauer, and Prim. Dr. David Vysseki). Dr. Hamer made exactly the same statement over 20 years ago in his post-doctoral thesis, presented to the University of Tübingen.

The following was reported under ”New and Current Information“ in the Austrian Medical Journal 1 - 2 of 25th January 2004: Brain Imaging:  psychic illnesses are visible. The article stresses that for the first time, researchers are able to identify psychic illnesses on a screen through a fMRI-functional magnet resonance image. Imagine that, suddenly it IS possible!  However, Dr. Hamer’s name was never mentioned in the above-mentioned articles.

As long as Dr. Hamer and his opponents have not died, his findings will not be accepted.

It is obvious that history repeats itself at regular intervals.

Admittedly, people of charisma are often difficult, aggressive, impatient and defiant towards their fellow contemporaries. However, is this a reason to disavow researchers, to persecute them and put them behind bars, instead of verifying their discoveries objectively?

Dr. Hamer will probably suffer the same fate as Semmelweis: persecution, contempt, psychiatry and finally termination!

I have been active in the medical profession for 40 years and can attest that Dr. Hamer’s (now also Prof. Dr. Friedman’s et al) findings have been a wonderful and additional help for many patients.

Thanks for taking the time to read my letter. I appeal to you to help Dr. Hamer without prejudice. He does not deserve to be held in prison!

With kind regards,

Dr. Willibald Stangl
